While the year is coming to a close, there’s still a stack of incredible Aussie movies heading to cinemas across the country. Here’s eight movies to look out for in the final months of 2015!
Last Cab To Darwin
What’s it about: Michael Caton stars as Rex, a cab driver from Broken Hill who, when told he doesn’t have much longer to live, sets out on the epic journey to Darwin in a bid to die on his own terms. Along the way he discovers that before you can end your life you have to live it. And to live it, you have to share it.
Also starring Jacki Weaver, Emma Hamilton, Mark Coles Smith, Ningali Lawford-Wolf, John Howard, Alan Dukes, David Field and Leah Purcell.

Holding The Man
What’s it about: This year’s Closing Night Film at the Sydney Film Festival, Holding The Man stars Ryan Corr and Craig Stott in the remarkable true-life story as Timothy Conigrave and John Caleo. Tim and John’s enduring love has been immortalised in both Tim’s cult-classic memoir and Tommy Murphy’s award-winning stage play of the same name.
In 1976, Tim and John fell in love as teenagers at their all-boys high school in Melbourne. John the captain of the football team and Tim an aspiring actor, playing a small part in Romeo and Juliet. Their romance endured for 15 years to laugh in the face of everything life threw at it.

Blinky Bill The Movie
What it’s about: The most famous koala in Australia finally hits the big screen! Blinky Bill is a young marsupial with a huge imagination. Following in his dad’s footsteps, Blinky ventures into the Outback. Believing his father to be missing, but still alive, Blinky embarks on a journey that takes him far beyond the boundary of his home in the little town of Green Patch.
A handful of stars lend their voices to the iconic marsupial’s adventure including Ryan Kwanten, Toni Collette, Robin McLeavy, David Wenham, Richard Roxburgh, Barry Humphries, Deborah Mailman and Barry Otto.

Oddball
What it’s about: The incredible true story about a chicken farmer who, with the help of his granddaughter, trains his mischievous dog to protect a wild penguin sanctuary from fox attacks in an attempt to reunite his family and save their seaside town.
Starring Shane Jacobson, Sarah Snook, Richard Davies, Deborah Mailman and Alan Tudyk.

Cut Snake
What it’s about: Set in Melbourne in the mid-1970s, Cut Snake tells the story of Sparra Farrell, a very private man in his twenties who is trying to make a life for himself in a new city. He has found honest work and becomes engaged to the beautiful Paula. But the prospect of his new life is challenged when the charismatic Pommie tracks him down. Sparra finds himself drawn back into a world that he thought he had left behind.
Starring Sullivan Stapleton, Jessica De Gouw and Alex Russell.

The Dressmaker
What it’s about: Set in the 1950s, The Dressmaker is a bittersweet comedy about a glamorous young woman who returns, after many years in Europe, to her small home town in rural Australia in order to right some wrongs from the past. When Tilly comes home, she not only reconciles with her ailing mother Molly but, with her sewing machine, and haute couture style, she transforms the women of the town in such a way that she gets sweet revenge on those who did her wrong. She also falls unexpectedly in love, which leads to her greatest loss and her most destructive deed.

Now Add Honey
What it’s about: Caroline Morgan’s life is in free fall: her two daughters can’t stop fighting, her boss is practically a slave-driver, her husband announces he’s leaving her for the yoga instructor… Now add Honey! After living in the USA for six years, Caroline’s celebrity niece Honey has come to stay along with her pill-popping momager. But is all this too much for Caroline to handle?

Wide Open Sky
What it’s about: A children’s choir in a remote corner of Outback Australia is changing the lives of kids. A documentary, Wide Open Sky follows the kids as they travel from home to music camp to prepare for their big concert where they have three days to learn a demanding performance set. Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Sydney Film Festival this year, the film shows the power music can have over us all.
