In February, the Internet was shocked by pictures of humanitarian worker Anja Ringgren Loven rescuing an abandoned child in Nigeria. Now, new photos have surfaced showing the boy’s unbelievable recovery.
Anja works in Nigeria rescuing children accused of witchcraft and subsequently abandoned, but this picture of two-year-old boy Hope shocked the world.
And after just eight weeks in Anja’s care at the orphanage she established, this is Hope today.
Hope, like many other “witch children”, was left to starve to death, shunned by his community and possibly even beaten or tortured.
The shocking images of Hope resulted in over $1 million being donated to Anja’s African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation.
But now Anja says, “Hope is really enjoying his new life now having 35 brothers and sisters who ALL take such good care of him.”
Hope was treated for worms in his stomach and given daily blood transfusions in Anja’s care and is now a happy, healthy two-year-old.
