The giant fossilized mollusk shell was found in the mountains of Chechnya. According to experts, its age is over 80 million years. This was announced by director of the Argun historical-architectural and natural museum-reserve Sayd-Emin Dzhabrailov.

According to him, the discovery was made in Sharoysky District of the republic by scientific-research expedition “Unknown Chechnya”.

“The height of the shell is more than 3 meters while circumference – almost 8 meters. It was discovered by researchers from Chechnya on the crest of a narrow ridge, at the altitude of 2300 meters. This is fossilized gastropod  of the Jurassic period. According to the reports, this discovery has been found only in the Far East, “- said Dzhabrailov.

As told in the press service of the head of the republic, the researchers earlier found in the mountains of Chechnya fossils of ancient animals. An organic origin of these findings was proved by scientists, including German experts.

Currently, research and development in the mountains of Sharoy district continues.
