Most of us know and sing the hymn Nearer My God to Thee written by Sarah Flower Adams (1805-1848). The British actress and poet wrote the hymn to accompany a sermon on Genesis 28:11-19 and Jacob’s dream. Adams’ sister created the first melody, but the the words are now sung to multiple melodies in many languages.

1912 RMS Titanic survivors remember Nearer My God to Thee as one of the last songs played by musicians. The hymn was played in multiple movie versions of the diaster and also appeared in other TV shows and films.

Two hundred years after its conception, the world’s best musicians bring audiences closer to the beauty and peace found in God.

Listen and enjoy!

The Piano Guys play a cello verison based on John Steven’s BYUs’s 9 voice arrangement. They chose to film in Utah, closer to their roots, in hopes that the natural location would speak to others whether they believed in a near God or not.

André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra.

Anna Weatherup performs live in the studio with String Quartet. She talks about how Nearer my God to Thee and hymns such as Amazing Grace hold so much meaning and emotion. The orchestral arrangements is by Daniel Brinsmead.

And of course we can’t end without remembering the Titanic.

Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed.

God bless you!
