Ideas for the movie “100 Years of Beauty – Italy” have emerged on the basis of the works of Italian designers and celebrities that influenced fashion trends in make-up, hair styling, and the general style of the last hundred years. That’s how it was.

In 1910 the hair gathered in a high stacking, applied to the face light makeup except lipstick – it was bright. This style originated through the influence of fashion designer Mariano Fortuny. In turn, Fortuny was inspired by Greek influences.

In the 1920s, more aggressive lines became popular: eyebrows began to make brighter and wider, also people began to mascara eyelashes strongly and hair were placed in a knot low on the nape. This trend came from Elsa Schiaparelli, who considered herself unattractive.

In the 1940s cultural sphere began to turn back to the beauty of the Second World War, which led Italy to a strong crisis and poverty. Makeup was not in trend and hairstyles have became more practical.

In the 1950’s hair and makeup gain incredible gloss, quickly reviving fashion industry introduces accessories. After the war, the textile industry is actively developing, almost all the clothes use bright colors, combined with a comfortable cut. It was minimum of make-up, but it maintained a feminine image.

In the 1970s, makeup becomes bright, color is everywhere: green shadows, orange lipstick. Fashion designer Missoni believed that the color can change the post-war Europe, so clothes were very colorful, and make-up has become the main accessory.

Fashionable ideas of 80s literally dripped with gold. The name Versace has become the loudest, everything he created, was associated with luxury and sex appeal. Accessories for hair, eye shadow, and even lipstick – everything was a gold in a particular manifestation.

Italian beauty

At the beginning of 21st century styling and make-up returned to the style of glamorous movie stars of the 1950s. Bulk packing unit at the back, full lips – Dolce and Gabbana promoted heteronormative attraction in all clothes.

As for contemporary Italian beauty-trends here the focus is on the color makeup and fancy hair, originating from the podium Moschino designer creations, which are usually not associated with luxury and wealth.

Great ideas, aren’t they? Most of them can be used even today.
