Many of us really need something to energise us when we get up in the morning. Everyone solves this problem in their own way, of course: some drink coffee, some exercise, whilst other people take a hot shower. But there are in fact more appetising and less strenuous ways to achieve this.

We’d like to introduce you to seven ideas for an early-morning drink that are guaranteed to wake you up and help you start the day in a good mood.

Iced tea with lemon and thyme

Lemon and thyme go well together. This refreshing beverage helps lift your spirits, boost your immune system and regain your strength. In addition, thyme contains tannins and essential oils, which have a very positive effect on your body.

Ingredients:

  • 5 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 2 lemons
  • 3 bag of black tea
  • 6 cups of water
  • Sugar according to taste

How to make it:

  1. Grate the lemon zest and squeeze out the juice.
  2. Pour the water into a saucepan. Add the spices, juice and lemon zest. Bring to the boil on a medium heat, then remove.
  3. Place the tea bags into the saucepan, add sugar if desired. Leave it to brew for five minutes.
  4. Remove the tea bags and leave it to cool down to room temperature for one hour.
  5. Strain through a sieve, then pour into a jug.
  6. Leave the tea to chill in the fridge, cooling it down to the desired temperature.
  7. Pour into glasses and serve.

Tea with milk and cardamom

The health benefits of cardamom are very diverse, so much so that it’s often called the “king of spices”. It improves metabolic processes, removes toxins from the body and can help calm your nerves. And it does plenty of other things besides!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 4-5 pods of cardamom
  • 3 bags of black tea
  • Sugar according to taste

How to make it:

  1. Gently knead the cardamom pods with your hands or a spoon.
  2. Pour the milk into a small stew pan, add the cardamom and tea bags. Bring to the boil and allow to simmer for five minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat. Pour into cups. Add sugar if desired.
  4. It’s ready to serve!

Juniper energy drink

Juniper is a plant which has almost magical healing properties. If you want to always be in good health, make sure to include it in your diet. A simple way to achieve this is to make this delicious drink — it’s seriously refreshing and invigorating!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of juniper berries
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 slices of lime or lemon

How to make it:

  1. Boil the water.
  2. Place the juniper berries in a bowl and fill it with the boiling water. Cover and leave it for one hour.
  3. Strain the water from the bowl.
  4. Add lime or lemon.
  5. Pour into cups and serve, or pour into a jug for later.

Sea buckthorn cocktail

Sea buckthorn is superior compared to both citrus fruit and black currant in terms of the amount of vitamin C it contains. It’s no surprise to find, then, that this berry can have very beneficial effects on the human body. What’s more, it produces an immediate, invigorating effect as soon as you drink it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon of ground coffee
  • 3 tablespoons of sea-buckthorn juice
  • Sugar according to taste

How to make it it:

  1. Mix together the milk, sour cream, egg yolk, ground coffee and sea-buckthorn juice in a blender until the resulting mixture becomes smooth.
  2. Add sugar if desired.
  3. Mix thoroughly once again.
  4. Pour into mugs and serve.

Ginger and citrus tea

This is a great beverage to try if you love ginger. It’s perfect for those who want to cheer themselves up, boost their immune system and get warm at the same time. Just add some citrus, and the drink will obtain a completely new flavour.

Ingredients:

  • 5 oranges
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 cups of black tea
  • 100 g (3.5 oz) of ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

How to make it:

  1. Squeeze the juice from the oranges.
  2. Mix together the orange juice and tea in a saucepan.
  3. Add chopped ginger, honey and cinnamon. Bring to the boil.
  4. Remove from the heat, then blend together in a food processor.
  5. Strain the drink through a fine sieve.
  6. Pour into cups, and garnish with a slice of orange. It’s ready to serve!

Chicory with cocoa

If you aren’t familiar with chicory yet, then it’s time you were. It’s become very popular in many countries as a spice used when dieting. Chicory is added to many delicious desserts and beverages — for example, chicory with cocoa.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of chicory
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

How to make:

  1. Pour the milk into a stew pan.
  2. Heat it up, but do not allow it to boil.
  3. Add the cocoa powder into the milk and stir it in thoroughly.
  4. Add the chicory and stir again.
  5. Keep the stew pan on the heat for another five minutes.
  6. Pour into cups. Add honey according to taste.

Hot chocolate with peppermint

This is a drink which tastes like coffee, but is something else entirely — it’s hot chocolate with peppermint. It has a rich and unique flavour which is refreshing and invigorating. This one’s strongly recommended for those looking for something new.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of milk (3.2% fat)
  • 1 1/2 cups of cream (10% fat)
  • 170 g (6 oz) of dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of mint leaves
  • Whipped cream according to taste
  • Caramel according to taste

How to make it:

  1. Mix together the milk, cream, sugar and mint leaves in a stew pan. Place on a medium heat.
  2. Bring to the boil, then remove from the heat. Cover the pan and leave it for ten minutes.
  3. Strain the milk through a sieve to remove the mint leaves.
  4. Add some crushed chocolate into the milk mixture. Place the pan on a medium heat and heat it up, stirring until the chocolate dissolves.
  5. Remove from the heat. Whisk briskly until you get a foamy texture.
  6. Pour into cups.
  7. Garnish with whipped cream and crushed peppermint or caramel if desired.
