make food tastier

Not only adding of salt and spices makes food tastier. Some of the little things that we were not even expected can help. Below we have compiled 15 tips that will help you make the food palatable.

1.Do not cut the onions and garlic in advance

Sliced onions and garlic emit strong odors, which can be uncomfortable. It is better to cut them at the last moment or soaking in a solution of baking soda and water (1 teaspoon per cup of water). The solution will reduce the sharpness, most importantly, be sure to rinse them before adding to the dish.

2. Do not throw away the pulp of tomatoes

Seeds and pulp around them have the strongest taste and smell. Therefore, if a dish does not say that you need to get rid of the flesh, do not do it.

3. Retain the freshness of fats

The fats in butter and vegetable oils go rancid over time and spoil the taste of dishes. In order to slow down this process, it is necessary to limit the supply of oxygen to them. You can do this by putting the butter in the freezer, peanut butter in the refrigerator and vegetable oils – in a dark and cool place.

4. Place the ingredients only to the hot pan

The surface temperature of cooking is reduced immediately, as soon as you put the food inside. Therefore, if you cook vegetables, wait until the oil begins to bubble in a pan, and when cooking food without oil, wait until the steam will go from the frying pan.

5. Refuel food sugar

If you are not restricted to use sugar, you can spice it fried meat, seafood or vegetables. Sugar will give them a richer taste.

6.Improves the taste of spices

To enhance the flavor of spices and dried herbs, you need a minute or two to cook them in butter or vegetable oil before adding to the dish. If the recipe says to add some spice to the end, then add them when the dish is still cooking for 1-2 minutes.

7. Do not throw burnt pieces from the pan

Remaining in the pan burnt pieces can serve as a great addition to the sauce, soup or stew. Pour the hot pan with the liquid (wine, juice, bouillon), and scrape them with a wooden spoon.

8. Do not remove the cakes too early

The ideal color of bread, cakes, and other pastries – a golden-brown. Almost all of the oven door are transparent, so you can monitor the achievement of the desired condition.

9. Add some soy sauce or anchovies

Soy sauce and anchovies contain large amounts glutamate, which gives the dish rich meat taste. Add 1-2 teaspoons of soy sauce in the chili or another filling, or if you cook the vegetables, add some grounded anchovies.

10. Add fresh herbs in time

Solid herbs such as thyme, rosemary, sage and oregano, to be added at the beginning of cooking. So they will give more flavor, and their structure will become less firm. Soft herbs such as basil, parsley, cilantro, and onions are best added at the last minute, otherwise they will lose their flavor and bright color.

11. Food should look good

If you’ve ever watched cooking shows, you know how much attention the chef give the appearance of food. A study by Charles Michel  proved that the appearance of food influences its taste. Here are some tips:

  1. The dish should be a pleasant color. White – the best option.
  2. You should not over-piling food.
  3. Use contrasting colors, sizes and shapes.
  4. Use decorations: vegetables, herbs, sauce.

12. The situation is also important

Designers pay special attention to how the restaurant looks. It directly affects the desire of visitors to order and eat a meal. Subconsciously, you want to consider your kitchen, hall or room small restaurant, and if you can do that, then the food will be enjoyable.

You should start with the music. Scientists have shown that the average volume of the music has a positive effect on the way we eat. Christopher C. Novak – the author of another study – to be more accurate, and found that the music volume is in the range of 62 to 67 decibels (normal conversation volume), makes people more satisfied with the food. At the same time too loud music affects the exact opposite.

Here are some tips:

  1. Reduce temperature. The body will think it needs more energy to keep warm.
  2. Turn off the lights, or use candles.
  3. Use social distractions such as a television or a conversation.

13. Use heavy dishes

Another work of Charles Michel has shown that we no longer enjoy eating when we consume it through heavy cutlery. Furthermore, silverware allowed respondents to even more enjoy the food. People were even ready to pay for it more money. Heavy silverware – the key to success.

14. Food becomes tastier if it causes nostalgia

I will explain. The result of the research of scientists from the University of Illinois showed that a person has a much nicer appetite if it brings back memories. For example, “Grandma’s chocolate chip cookies” will be enjoyable to the taste than regular cookies from the store. Even if they do not differ.

The same applies to food and farming. The man thinks: “This chicken was grown in normal conditions” – and get more pleasure from eating, knowing that his conscience did not bother.

Finally, if, for example, to say that the pasta is cooked “the old family recipe,” it would seem a bit tastier, because now it is connected with the history of taste.

14. Adapt to consumer psychology

A very interesting study was conducted at Cornell University. Respondents filed for dinner two bottles of wine. One of California’s (famous for its vineyards), the second of North Dakota (generally not associated with wine). Respondents responded to the first with much more enthusiasm, and most importantly – on average eat more food than those who drank wine from North Dakota.
