In the wake of the terror attacks that killed 129 people and injured at least 350 more in Paris on Friday night, monuments around the world have been lit up with the colors of the French flag as a symbol of solidarity. The Eiffel Tower went dark on Saturday night to mourn the victims. Today, it’s illuminated with the flag’s tricolore, the first time in history the landmark has ever changed its colors.
In New York City, the spire of One World Trade Center glowed red, white, and blue. At least a dozen other monuments worldwide have been illuminated, including Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, the Sydney Opera House, the Pearl Tower in Shanghai, Madrid’s City Hall, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, and Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer.
At noon in Paris today, the city observed a moment of silence as people gathered around makeshift memorials at Place de la République and the Eiffel Tower. Thousands placed flowers, candles, and signs in front of the Bataclan concert hall and La Belle Équipe Café on Rue de Charonne, where two of the attacks occurred.

Still, the most visually arresting signs of support shine on some of the globe’s most recognizible facades. Onward for a full look.
